This was partly resolved as of 56f1a53

However, there is a similar, but slightly larger, issue at play still. In the original example, the troublesome variables are followed by a comma. This comma is incorrectly parsed as the delimiter for container entries, causing all sorts of weird and unexpected things to happen.

I suppose any of the keyword characters would cause this to happen (e.g. (, ), < etc.).

How do we solve this? Maybe by keeping a state of what is currently expected; e.g. somehow determining that we're now parsing container entries, now it's a sequence... and so on. Or maybe we just need to know that during parsing of a sequence, no other rules apply?
