Bower is designed to deploy packages for the front end, not as a way to load in development dependencies. So it makes sense that the bower package would point to a version optimised for that purpose. If you just need the source so that you can use your own build step, pull it in via npm.
Weirdly enough though, the bower.json now points to the unminified source and the package.json points to the minified one. This is the opposite of what I'd expect.

You can use the latest version v2.0.2 in Bower. It is properly tagged.
