I'll take a look at getting mediagoblin updated in the next week or so.

There probably won't be many code conflicts when rebasing, but it looks like they've changed their whole build/environment setup process which is going to take some time to redo for Sandstorm.

Perhaps more importantly: Please could you state what your policy is regarding updates and maintenance? Do you intend to keep this updated or was it just an experiment and somebody else should plan to take over?

I know some of the app ports are updated on an as-needed basis or as time permits. Security on Sandstorm is rarely an issue. I know for a fact @jparyani would appreciate PRs or similar assistance if someone's comfortable with it to help keep app ports up to date if that's something you are comfortable with.

Also worth asking, is there a particular feature or change you are looking for in the update?

Disclaimer: I speak for nobody and am not affiliated with Sandstorm.io. Don't take anything I say as "policy". Jason will probably respond in due time.

Re. particular features: no. I want to use MediaGoblin to manage my photo collection and share with family and friends. I tried the 0.7.1 version briefly and found it a bit clunky. Potentially I may one day get around to contributing to it, and so I want to be starting with an up-to-date version, and potentially switch to using the development head version.

Sandstorm looks like a great system but I don't want to add it into the mix if I would then be stuck with running only old versions of MediaGoblin. That's why I say stating the update policy is even more important than getting an update.

Thank you! I should say, I don't necessarily need this for my own use, though I might try it out, but mainly I'm asking because I want MediaGoblin to present a good impression to people who come to try it out by this method.

@julianfoad It may be worth noting, especially if you end up working with MediaGoblin at all in the future, that generally the best possible situation for a Sandstorm app is when the app developers choose to support and maintain the Sandstorm app directly/officially, and the Sandstorm team does have a process for handing that off.

My hope is that people don't judge a project like MediaGoblin based on an outdated version on a not-officialy-supported-by-them port of their app, but I do understand that regular users are prone to do such things.

I suppose, on observation, it is worth noting that since MediaGoblin offers a demo through Sandstorm, users are very likely to judge the project based on the Sandstorm port.
