Change in NP or creating of API to support Web based requests

A quick search shows it should be possible to calculate hash in PHP (http://php.net/manual/en/function.hash-pbkdf2.php), but I've never tried myself.

Ultimately the goal of the MQTTitude back-end (of which m2s could be a portion of) is to have a possibility to create new users, change passwords, etc.

Yes and no.

PHP 5.5.0 onward have hash-pbkpf2.php (most server are still at 5.4 (mine included)) ...

And I can't seem to get the salt part of the https://defuse.ca/php-pbkdf2.htm solution. What should the salt be? Is it random? What lenght it is ... and so on.

Salt is random, yes. Read https://exyr.org/2011/hashing-passwords/ for more.
Also, check the code in np.c

I've made it work! Now we have working PHP auth module. That can be used.

I've just commited a pull request to mqqtitude contrib part, as this can be usefull.
