Python setup tools needs a compiler. Your error is stemming from your compiler not knowing how to treat one or more of the assembly source files in the RandomX library.

What complier should we be using then? I have cmake and msvc installed, both of which normally work for packages installed via pip.

GCC / Clang work fine. I don't use Windows but presumably a recent version of MS Visual Studio can be made to work.

It fails with GCC with the same error. I've tested now on two different fresh virtual machines.
Do you mind going in to greater detail or pointing me to somewhere where I can get help with this issue?

Try the latest commit. I updated the external submodule of RandomX. That will probably fix it.
