Hi there 👋

Hi, I'm Julen, an ecologist studying the impacts of global change on forest dynamics at the University of Alcalá (Madrid) 🌳🌤️. I work at the intersection of ecology and data science 🌳👨‍💻. I love getting into the field to understand the natural history of ecosystems or simply for fun ⛰️. I don't like repetitive task and I like problem-solving games, that's why I'm a big fan of coding (mainly R) 👨‍💻. I believe that knowledge and science should be open to everyone and approached slowly, with time to think and enjoy the learning process. Here are some projects and courses I've been involved in that might be useful, with information available mainly in Spanish and sometimes in English:

climate_data icon climate_data

codes to download climate data (temperature and precipitation) and calculate MCWD

intro_git-github icon intro_git-github

En este repositorio encontraréis todo el material que hemos ido desarrollando sobre ciencia reproducible y colaborativa centrándonos en R, Git y GitHub

intro_tidyverse icon intro_tidyverse

In this repository you will find some of the basic concepts to understand the core tidyverse collection of R packages (https://www.tidyverse.org/) focusing mainly on dplyr (and to a lesser extent purrr) but with some touches on all the core packages. For this aim, you will find a made up case study relating annual mean temperature and CO2 emissions data from Sevilla.

legacies icon legacies

Here, we show how the legacies of past forest management in forest distribution, structure, and composition in interaction with climate change increase the risk of detrimental effects on forest dynamics.

tree_species_density icon tree_species_density

In this repository are the data and codes to reproduce the results of Relative decline in density of Northern Hemisphere tree species in warm and arid regions of their climate niches
