Hmm, just saw something very similar while testing async code on node.js without Karma (and without this adapter of course). My tests were using promises.
I will try to narrow down the pb but for now I would more suspect mocha itself than this adapter.

I've spent some time today trying to reproduce it with the latest karma-mocha adapter and couldn't. After checking all the recent code changes I believe it was fixed by 25f9a6f.
I'm going to close this one but I'm going to monitor this repo for similar issues and re-open if needed.
