Cannot be replicated. What browser or client are you checking this? Hope your markup is ok.
Check the last example on the examples folder (id = test1) for your use case.

Testing right now on Firefox 33 and IE11, same issue and I'm on a different computer. The markup is generated by a call to the FuelPHP framework, but I tried writing it too, and that's how I tested the type="checkbox"
.
<input data-toggle="checkbox-x" data-three-state="false" name="rememberme" value="1" checked="checked" type="checkbox" id="form_rememberme" />

As mentioned cannot replicate your issue on any browser. Are you able to test the index.html example file rightly on your machine. If that works, you may need to check your framework or other javascript triggering any additional change events.

I was able to do some more extensive testing, and I think I finally found what the problem was: the label tag containing the input tag had a mistyped for attribute. By correcting the for attribute, everything works as expected.
