To get a value from the configuration object I always need the full path, right?

For example database.user from above.
So when connecting to the database I need to type database.user, database.password and database.host.

Is it possible to isolate the group of 'database' to get a new koanf object, or a map?

k.String("database.user") would become k2.String("user") or (if the return value is a map) db["user"].

Yes. You can do k.Get("database") and get a map of database.*. You may also want to look at unmarshalling to a struct: https://github.com/knadh/koanf?tab=readme-ov-file#unmarshalling-and-marshalling
