As sync with @droot , there is an ongoing effort to make running e2e tests a seamless experience by uploading controller image to GKE and setting up test environment such as RBAC and required resources automatically.

I am currently working on a tutorial on how to run the e2e tests on remote clusters (e.g., GKE). I will send out the PR soon.
