I can't repro on master. It's probably a local issue.

Thank you for raise it. According to the error and description it seems that the error is on master not in the latest release and it is due to the PR: #4013

@schrej could you please check this one and see if you can address the fix? Otherwise, we need to revert the PR prior a future release. Thank you a lot.

I think @[ was released in 3.14.0 and introduced by #3718 here.

The change is merged for more than 6 months: cce61e1

So, it is unlike have an issue. It was shipped with many releases.

See that the steps informed

create a new kubebuilder project and run make controller-gen
kubebuilder init --domain tutorial.kubebuilder.io --repo tutorial.kubebuilder.io/project
kubebuilder create api --group batch --version v1 --kind CronJob
make controller-gen

Are executed in the tests always to generate the samples under the testdata and in the e2e tests
So, it seems that you change something in your MAKEFILE which broke it.
