implemented with sightly different api:

    "myScale": {
      auto: false,
      range: (dataMin, dataMax) => [-5, 100],
    },
    "yourScale": {
      auto: false,
      range: (dataMin, dataMax) => [0, 1500],
    },
  },
};

this api allows range to also act as a scale adjuster/snapper/expander when auto: true. this is used internally to add buffers above/below ymin/ymax. with auto: false, dataMin/Max default to 0/100.
