Here are 2 ideas I have as to how the design could look like:
The first one is pretty much like the current design. It shows the dash for one workspace but you can also see the workspace number the dash is for. Switching the icons for the workspace should be done by using the arrow keys (up/down) from anywhere. The first workspace to show should be the currently active one.
The second design will list the windows from workspaces 1 - last (left to right) and separate the workspaces by starting a new dash (but not a new row if not necessary). The first item to focus should be the currently active workspace.

814eedb implements this. But instead showing some kind of indication of workspaces, I just add all of them to the list. The dash starts with the apps from the active workspace.

Went back on this idea. Now I still only show windows from the current workspace.
Reasoning:
Tiling windows is used to group windows together. That's also what workspace are for. So if someone spreads their windows across workspace, they probably don't want to group windows together (or they want to maximized the available screen for each app, but in that case it wouldn't make sense to tile them together as well).
W10 follows the same behaviour and this extension is mainly inspired by W10's tiling.
