For example in Debian (jessie) usbmuxd is currently unusable, which means no iphone support of any kind (files, tethering, ...) The current tree compiles fine and solves many problems (ios7 support, for example) compared to the stable version.

Re-reading the bug report, I see that it is not really clear : could you tag one version as being 1.0.9? I think this is a case of "release early(ish) is better than no release".

No, there is a release coming very soon and it will be tagged and done when it's properly ready.
There have been important changes and even a project split so please be patient.
Distributions are already adjusting accordingly and I'll update this ticket once done.

i made an snapshot instead of using the git eclasses, because all live ebuilds, need to be either without KEYWORDS or p.masked as per policy

the upstream homepage says releases are coming soon, so it's all good :)

What is your definition of "very soon"? It's been over a month since your message, and almost two months since this issue was opened.
Meanwhile, on many distributions (e.g., Debian unstable), the software does not work at all. The git version runs for me fine.
