There is no awk call in the whole usbmuxd source and it is unclear on which platform and version you are testing. Closing as invalid.
Feel free to reopen if you provided the above information or still think this is a bug.

Sorry, that is of course completely wrong as it is used in the udev/systemd Makefiles. Anyways, should be fixed in git master HEAD. Check that you have awk installed. On OS X this is not required.
You can also check the end of file "config.log" to learn more about your error.
