You don't need usbmuxd on OSX. iTunes already comes with its own.

Works for me. Tested on OS X 10.9.5.
Are you using MacPorts? It looks like you are missing pkg-config on your system.
You can also check the end of the file "config.log" for more details.

You are missing the libusb development files in a path that pkg-config can locate.
Fix that and you'll be able to finish the configure step.
