I worked around the problem by commenting out the lines which create volumes referencing ssmtp from docker-compose.yml

Same problem. This repo worked last week. Docker for Mac updated, and now it does not work.

Noticed same error here today, but in my case an environment variable in the .env file was accidentally prefixed with "==" (e.g. ==SOME_VAR=TEST)

Same problem here. Commenting the line
# - ./ssmtp.conf:/etc/ssmtp/ssmtp.conf
out didn't help.

Tried on Ubuntu 16.04 (local machine, cloud VM), docker 1.12.3, docker-compose 1.7.1 and 1.9.0
