This is a theme issue and should be reported to the author of the theme you're using in /linuxmint/cinnamon-spices-themes repo. Mint-Y, Mint-X, Mint-L, Linuxmint, and cinnamon default themes all work ok.

Default Theme. I increased the size of the font due to vision issues. There are two ways to make the text larger and both make this issue happen.

Hi, I hace the same issue but I noticed that it happens on some themes but not all of them, so it must be something on the theme config.
