Is this still relevant? I haven't noticed any problems with Mint-X window corners myself. If you could post a screenshot so I know what to look for this could probably be fixed easily.
I'm not sure at this point much would be gained by trying to recreate the theme manually.

That's not what I suggest - I suggest basing mint-x on a fully up-to-date and "professional" theme like Adwaita or Evolve instead of maintaining a sloppily tweaked version of an old custom elementary theme from 2009 (https://github.com/linuxmint/mint-themes/blob/master/usr/share/themes/Mint-X/metacity-1/metacity-theme-1.xml) full of outdated code and lacking upstream (gnome) refinements. Doing it now will be easier than doing it later.
Look at the outer border corners in mint-x windows, change to Adwaita, compare (just an example issue from being outdated)
from mint-themes.
