For the sign in issue, 1) did you create an app from https://manage.dev.live.com and update the sample code with the client Id?
2) Did you mark your app as "mobile client app" in the app settings page?

In addition to "strange code=-999":
When user is signing in and enter valid credentials he get confirmation window with UIWebView that loads web-page. This web-page contains two (or more) small images, and if user has slow internet-connection these images are loaded after buttons "Yes" and "No" becomes active. And if user press "Yes" before all page (with images) is loaded user get authentication error with the log:

The operation couldn’t be completed. (LiveServicesErrorDomain error 1.)

I guess this is because authentication process has process-state logic with some steps. And success of signing in requires the method connectionDidFinishLoading: is called.

These issues have been fixed in recent check in. Please re-activate this issue if you can still repro.
