Well yes, this is an issue with the GTK theme installed. I suppose the best solution is to find another dark replacement that doesn't cause this problem. If you want to fix it for yourself you can just look for themes and try them out, but I need to do it to change the default at sometime.

In case you don't know how, you can get a program like lxappearance to switch between themes. You can get themes by just looking for them in the repo/AUR and they'll show up in lxappearance.

I'm putting "help-wanted" on this issue.

If anyone knows a good GTK theme in the Arch repos or AUR that is both dark, but doesn't produce this problem, feel free to say so since I don't know if I can be bothered to manually test each one.

I moved the theme of the entire system to gruvbox, including the GTK theme. This should resolve this problem. There are still some questionably close colors, which I might change manually in the future, but the black on black problems should be gone.
