Hi Evert,

Could you post the error message you get? I'd like to handle this with a try-except clause, like:

try:
    foo.cas = foo.cas.str.replace('^[0]*','')
except <+error type+>:
    pass

AttributeError: Can only use .str accessor with string values, which use np.object_ dtype in pandas

Commit 27acb1f should fix this. For some reason, I could not reproduce the original bug on my machine (because linux?). Could you test that the bug is indeed fixed? Thanks a lot for your help.
