There are ways to use python code with c++, I think they all involve linking against libpython though. I've never really look too much into it, here is what opentimelineio recommends.

I didn't know about this project which looks very promising! It seems that it currently use pyaaf. Any idea when it will switch to pyaaf2?

We're investigating pyaaf2 for use in OpenTimelineIO - it seems very promising so far. You can follow our progress here: AcademySoftwareFoundation/OpenTimelineIO#236
