I have just read about sys.path_hooks and it should be relevant, it allows file specific hooks to be added.

I suspect using bython modules in python would require some nasty hacking to make working, you may be onto something with sys.path_hooks, but I'm not sure how to change python to do this.

I originally included the -c flag for exactly this issue, so for now I would advise you to compile all bython files to python, and then run the python file:

$ bython -c *.by
$ python yourfile.py

This is now an added feature, it's currently only available in the dev branch, but will be merged into master at some point in the future.

I decided to avoid the path_hooks as it seemed like more of a hassle than to create my own function for it. There is now an added module bython.importing that handles imports of Bython code in Python.
