If i remove colorsFile and dataSource from ledspicer.conf i dont get any errors and all the buttons pulse red but they dont stay lit up even if i load digdug

I then added

	<inputs>
    		<input name="digdug"/>
	</inputs>

to /usr/local/share/ledspicer/profiles/profile_arcade.xml but then it complains it cant find /usr/local/share/ledspicer/inputs/digdug.xml which i dont know what that should look like. you said I only need those for overides, so if i use <inputs/> it flashes red but no buttons light up for $ emitter LoadProfileByEmulator digdug arcade

at this point with the plugin also added to attractmode every rom selection just flashes red but no rom-specific buttons light up

im not sure what im missing here

You need that two data source files (colors and game settings) or remove the config to avoid the error, check this section:

I did several changes on the last version that are not compatible anymore with the old config but they fixes, and bring a lot of features!!
now the profiles can be read from 3 places (mame, a color.ini file and the old gameData.xml file)
the ini files changes a bit, instead of having the settings into the profile, I moved them into an input config, is just cut paste.

There is also a new feature that creates the profiles on the way. you only need to create a base arcade_profile for arcades and it will do everything automatically.

I think my configs are fine. highlighting games in attract flashes red but I dont see how it knows about game specific colors.

For example if i highlight digdug or launch it the buttons stay dark
