The search box currently supports two types of query:
mirror type (rsync, ftp, http or some combnation)
loc:lat,long (location)
These are used by the left sidebar links to filter to a particular mirror type or show 'nearest' mirrors to you.
What type of query did you search for? I guess we should also support filtering by continent, country or mirror name.

Without looking at the code, I had just assumed you can enter a country name and get filtered results. I think that would be helpful.

Frankly, I was just using the search field for an ordinary search and had no special expectations. I was not even paying attention that I was on the mirrors page. This is probably normal for an end user that is not paying so much attention to the navigation. I'm sure I could live with any behaviour, just not with a result that ignores my input completely. My search input was "literal".
