Isotope's remove method should remove the items from the DOM.

// removes elements from Isotope widget
remove : function( $content ) {
  this.$allAtoms = this.$allAtoms.not( $content );
  this.$filteredAtoms = this.$filteredAtoms.not( $content );
  $content.remove();
},

Which is why I didn't add all the other stuff, like removing positioning or classes. I'm curious as to how you're still seeing these items in the DOM.

Yes, remove takes them out of the DOM. But, I'd like to insert them somewhere else, right after removing them from the isotope container, and that's where the leftover styling presents a (small) issue.

A function that assures the item is styled as it was before isotope touched it would be nice... somewhat like destroy on an item-level.
