it does not -- the aead_ functions don't appear until libsodium 1.0.12 - xenial ships with libsodium 10.0.8. Adding version guards. -- responding to my commit message not to your bug report @udf2457 -- thanks.

Except I've compiled and installed 1.0.16 and I'm pretty sure its the only one on the system....
$ sudo apt list --installed | fgrep sodium
WARNING: apt does not have a stable CLI interface. Use with caution in scripts.

Thanks for the heads up. Did you try pulling in 21562d0 doing a make distclean, running perl Makefile.PL again and make? Did the errors change at least? There was definitely a typo/syntax error, it didn't build on my mac even (i gotta get CI set up), but after I fixed the typo it built fine on my mac against 1.0.16

In either case I have to get it working against 1.0.8 as well. fixes soon.
