I am happy with the cycling behaviour as it is.

Mimicking the behaviour of expand-region is not the purpose of Combobulate's mark node. I've tried to copy some of the better features from it, but emulating it is not its purpose.

well this is not about just mimicking the behavior of expand-region. and I'm not saying that combobulate should emulate expand-region.
that is just how i expect expand region to work.
vscode also has a similar feature called expand/shrink selection which works the same way.

I have never used vscode.
The carousel cycles and loops around when you reach the start or end of the choices; it's how it was intended to work.

I see. would you be interested in merging a pull request that adds the option to disable the cycling behavior?
of course this wouldn't be hard to implement using advices or something like that but I don't think I'm the only one to expect expand region to behave this way
