What do the "detailed information" says? (connections, known peers etc)

You might try adding seed.twister.net.co or seed2.twister.net.co or seed3.twister.net.co to the "DNS to obtain list of peers" field. I've seen this fixing bootstraping problems before.

I was going to follow the advice above, but when I started twister up again, this time it started downloading the block chain on its own.

Now, the highlighted message reads "Downloading block chain, please wait before continuing (block chain is 50.72 days old)," and the number of days is counting down.

So, it sorted itself out after a restart.

I'm not sure if you want to close this issue out, or leave it around as a reminder that the process when first starting up could be a little smoother.

Sadly, it never completed the block chain. It made it to "Downloading block chain, please wait before continuing (block chain is 0.09 days old)." but is stalled there. Not making any further progress.

I tried adding those DNS addresses. It doesn't give any feedback, so I can't tell if that had any effect.

@dncohen did you update your client / solved this issue ? Just doing some cleanup.
EDIT: should be logged against twister-core anyway, so closing this.
