well, I'd start by looking at the ftp fs layer integration. In the lib/DAV/tree folder you'll find an implementation of the tree and in lib/DAV/ftp you'll find the implementation of the node and collection resources.

This implementation of FTP you can use as a starting point or reference. From there on out you need to require the libraries or drivers for mongo/ s3, think about the appropriate data structures in the case of Mongo and fill up the methods as defined by the interfaces for node and collection.

Hosting it on Heroku is not a problem at all, especially since the latest version in the master branch doesn't have a binary dependency anymore.

jsDAV has changed A LOT in a year. Current release is v0.3.0. Closing this issue, because it should be much easier now to implement new storage backends.
