This sounds related to an openssl bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssl/+bug/965371
You can verify by using the openssl
command line tool on the same machine from which you're running your application:
openssl s_client -connect api.mixpanel.com:443
If this fails with an error message like "ssl handshake failure" but succeeds if you add a -tls1
argument, you're experiencing the bug linked above. I'm afraid that's not something we can fix in this library, but it looks like there are workarounds in the comments thread (and some more on stack overflow).
If openssl without -tlsv1
succeeds for you, feel free to reopen this issue and we can dig deeper!

This is from the support of mixpanel:
we recently deprecated TLSv1.0 and TLSv1.1 access to improve our security protocols, so please also make sure that you are using TLSv1.2 or higher.

I was able to run it with and without the -tls1
flag and it did succeed

The tlsv1 deprecation does NOT affect the tracking API, only the mixpanel.com website.
