I'm getting the same error after I tried to install it with the command:
pip install django-bootstrap-datepicker-plus

To anybody who might run into this issue, I got it to work with:
pip3 install django-bootstrap-datepicker-plus
(Due to my system recently being updated with Homebrew's python2 and python3)
from django-bootstrap-datepicker-plus.

I am getting the same error in python 3, does it support python3?.
