As far as I know Boost-for-Android does not provide a version for mipsel, only the one for ARM. Let maintainers correct me if I'm wrong. And you are trying to build your code for MIPS as your second log suggests, hence the error. But I'm just wondering why do you have arm toolchain invocations in your first log then?

So the first error is because there is no libboost_system.a, and the second one because you are trying to build code for MIPS.

Generally you should link with a static library libboost_system-gcc-mt-1_53.a and also you should ensure that you have standard library mentioned in linker invocation AFTER your boost libraries.

Thanks for the insight; it was indeed my Application.mk makefile that was wrong as it contained:

APP_ABI := armeabi armeabi-v7a x86 mips

I commented out mips and all seems resolved.

To be honest, I have no idea what it is or if it's being used for Android devices. Having all architectures would be "nice to have", but aren't relevant at the moment.
