Thanks for the feedback. Do you have any additional information about which version of Windows was having the problem?

Hi joshstrike,

Thanks for your email,

Yes I would definitely like to look into this.
What I am planning to do is get the last month or so of coding out in a
another beta this week and then spend the next few weeks eliminating the
inevitable bugs and problems to make it as painfree as possible for
people.

I think this matches the timescale for Bitcoins for Christmas.

There is one outstanding bug which may be causing the problem you are
seeing - one of our testers tried installing MultiBit in an account
where they did not have administrator rights and there were some
problems to do with write rights.
I plan to put in a 'data directory' similiar to bitcoind so that logs,
default wallets etc will be put into a user area.

The profile of the downloads I see is about 50% Windows, 25% Mac and 25%
Linux so I will have to do more Windows testing I think - both Gary and
I use Macs as out primary machines.

Regards,

Jim

BitcoinsForChristmas.com has so far been recommending MultiBit for use by

However issues seem to be arising with the Windows installer. This is the
second anecdotal report we've received:

Thanks, Jim! That's great news.
I'm cc'ing other interested parties on this... let us know if
there's anything we can do to help.
Cheers,
Josh

Joshstrike < Have you had a chance to evaluate the most recent beta (0.2.0beta2) to see if this issue is now fixed ?
I have changed the installer so that it now installs user data to a per-user application data directory / roaming profile which I believe was the root cause of the install problem.

If it is too early to tell yet we can keep it open for, say, another week to see if we get any reports of problems.

Hi Jim,
I'm on a Mac, so I never experienced the issue directly ...but the
answer makes a lot of sense, and if Brad has had no trouble
installing the new version then I think it's resolved. Thanks again
for working so closely with the community in such a hurry. We'd be
having a really hard time trying to figure out what to tell new
users in the next few weeks if it wasn't for your great work!
Cheers,

Great - I will close it.

Over the next weeks (i.e the Christmas run up) I will be just be doing bug fixes/ tidy ups/ adding tests to the MultiBit code. It is worth keeping it stable for a while so that the overall 'Bitcoins for Christmas' experience is as smooth as possible.
