Attempt to address this in r933 . This required a bunch of reorganization in updatecheck.py, so the likelihood I introduced new bugs is high...

Fantastic. I will take a good look later today. I'd thought that would be a hard one; I'm just documenting anything I find that isn't quite perfect in the issue tracker so we can get to them eventually (or quickly!).

Functional testing works fine, both for the bug fix, and other normal operations.

I do prefer this logical concept - separation of data structures for what we were told vs what we will do. Means less finessing / making decisions in the right order. However, I've not gone through the logic flow entirely though, maybe I won't. "Works for me".

This change may also allow Justin to sort out issue 30 if that separation of reporting is still important.
