That's strange. Try configuring mt32.romdir option as well, or put the ROM files to the current directory. Here's what I get after building, patching and configuring DOSBox:

You need the rom. My version of dosbox, in my ppa makes the debian package ask for the ROM and hardcode its location to a system directory and default to the original mt32 rom if it's there, but you can probably just put them with the right names in ~/.dosbox or the equivalent on windows (i assume the dosbox executable dir itself).
