We should look up whether any com.google.android libs are required at all to send messages from an appengine app. Read docs on implementing a GCM server.

I found this documentation which talks about the deprecated library. It mentions that the client portion is no longer valid, but that the server helper is. http://developer.android.com/google/gcm/helper.html There's a section about "Writing the Server-side Application".

As Todd sez, we are not able to remove the com.google.android.gcm dependency entirely. We just need to use the gcm server components only.

I did a commit for this issue which looks to a remote repository for the gcm-server lib. That way a ttserver development environment doesn't have to manually install the lib in local maven.
