Welcome to my lab 👩🏽‍💻

Myrela Bauman

/'mi.ɾɛ.la bau.man'/

Epidemiologist by day, data science geek by night.

When I’m not analysing disease patterns in R or Python, you'll find me chilling with Euclid, getting lost in a good book, slaying dragons on the PS5, or planning my next hike.

Myrela Bauman's Projects

androidapps icon androidapps

Looked at data from 10.000 apps to assess the relationship between app price, sentiment of reviews, number of installs, rating, app category, and app size (in MB).

core-stories icon core-stories

All the notebooks for the analysis of Emotional Arcs within the Project Gutenberg corpus, see "The emotional arcs of stories are dominated by six basic shapes"

covid19-jfk-analysis icon covid19-jfk-analysis

To determine the relationship between the cumulative COVID-19 case count observed in 2020-2021 and the departure volume at JFK airport in NYC during the same time period. Used Python for data wrangling and examined the relationship with a linear regression.

ny-covid-prevalence icon ny-covid-prevalence

Interactive choropleth maps displaying daily prevalence of COVID-19 for each county in NY State, from 2020 to 2023.

nyc-covid-vax icon nyc-covid-vax

Mapping the percents of NYC residents who received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine; 3 levels of coverage mapped using ggplot2

pet-nutrition-calculator icon pet-nutrition-calculator

Python program that calculates daily nutritional requirements for pets and outputs the right combination of wet and dry food based on pet's weight and diet type.

programming_languages icon programming_languages

R Markdown exploratory analysis looking at the growth and decline of different programming languages over time.

pw-protected-filereader icon pw-protected-filereader

Python code to decrypt and combine all password-protected xlsx files into a dataframe for analysis, using msoffcrypto-tool.

python_filereader icon python_filereader

Data management automation tool. PyPDF2 reads unique identifiers from files and the OS library renames the files in-place with each corresponding identifier.

scala-github icon scala-github

Reading, cleaning up, and visualising Scala's project repository data spanning years 2011-2018

ulysses-sentiment-analysis icon ulysses-sentiment-analysis

Named-entity sentiment analysis of James Joyce’s 800-page masterpiece. In this NLP project, I scraped the novel Ulysses from the web, tokenized the text, mapped the names of 30 characters, and computed sentiment scores for each of these characters.

webscraping icon webscraping

Web scraping projects using Selenium, Beautiful Soup, and JSON
