As far as I've seen, all the versions since 0.17.7 are present now, so the auto-updater should work with them. I assume at one point the devs will make a patch for 0.16.51 to 0.17.x, which will allow auto-update from anything as far back as 0.12.wherever-the-patches-start.

I'm willing to call this issue closed, but anyone on 0.17.0 to .6 will still have to manually update - I can't really help that, I'm just using Factorio's own auto-patcher.

I looked around and I couldn't find a reason. The site itself doesn't seem to document this endpoint and they suggest essentially just scraping the download pages, which is sort of odd.

The automatic updater was causing errors, so it has been unlisted from the site. Please update through Steam or by downloading the whole game again.

Ah, that's disappointing.

I also found https://forums.factorio.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=65327 (and a quick search around the forum showed some other reports of the same), so it's definitely going to get fixed eventually; for the time being, I guess we'll have to stick to manual updates.

Yeah, I don't remember where I found it anymore -- either noticing it in the factorio-current.log or by careful use of wireshark -- but I never updated the wiki and I guess nobody else did, either.

Looks like 0.17.7 to 0.17.8 got added to the updater listings, so we might not be far from a fix here.
