I'm observing similar behavior on my Android 7.0.0 test device. I'm using cordova-android 6.3.0. No popup gets displayed. The error callback is called immediatelly and permissions get rejected without asking the user.

Ok, when I updated Cordova Android to 7.0.0 (https://cordova.apache.org/announcements/2017/12/04/cordova-android-7.0.0.html), it started working. I now see nice popups. Hooray!

Please note that Cordova Android 7.0.0 was released less than a week ago and the change of location of the AndroidManifest.xml file broke many plugins. I had to apply few manual fixes to plugins I use in my project in order to be able to build and run my project.

hey @bkowal I was testing with cordova-android 7.0.0 and I wasn't seeing anything. Did you apply any manual fixes to get this plugin to work?

@amritk @bkowal I also have this problem with Cordova Version 6.5.0 and Cordova-Android Version 6.2.3. It works when I do a debug build, but when I do a release build, the popups do not fire. Any thoughts on that?

@amritk Sorry for the late response. I didn't notice the notification I got from GitHub,
@munsterlander I didn't manage to make it work with cordova-android 6.x. I then upgraded to 7.x and encountered problems with some other plugins that I use. After I applied workarounds for these, it started working. I advise you to upgrade to latest version of cordova-android.
@amritk AFAIR I did not apply any changes to cordova-plugin-android-permissions. I only made some changes in cordova-plugin-admobpro and onesignal-cordova-plugin.

@bkowal I actually ended up just removing this plugin. If it is working you can close the ticket.
Cheers

P.S. I think my error was unrelated to the plugin.
