Yeah I knew this issue would come up eventually, my concern was trying to get this working for Rails 2.3, 3 and 3.1. Does find_template work consistently across all three? But this is an important suggestion, I agree.

Yep, find_template is exist in 2.3 branch: https://github.com/rails/rails/blob/v3.0.9.rc5/actionpack/lib/action_view/lookup_context.rb#L80:L83
