unfortunately are mail servers pretty complicated to implement and maintain. You should rather use a dedicated project for this like mailcow.

So this is likely nothing we will implement. Sry for that!

I am reopening this because I found https://github.com/docker-mailserver/docker-mailserver/ which looks like a perfect match. But we will only implement it as optional addon and it will probably take a long time.

Nextcloud AIO is supposed to simplify the setup of extra extensions (e.g. Turn Server, Stun Server) for the users as I understand it, the extensions like e.g. NC Office or Talk. Yes, it's difficult to rig a mail server, but exactly this extension would be very convenient for many users and the demand is very high as you can see from the requests on Github for requests like Nextcloud Mail or Nextcloud. Also in many forums the topic mail server and extension for Nextcloud (as a simple installation) is very in demand.

Please please this feature would be a milestone and very helpful for very many users.

Mailcow even includes a helper script to set up Nextcloud

Mailcow will not be used. Docker-mailserver is the way to go for aio.
