For those having this problem check if your environment is properly setting the QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME to qt5ct. If you use LXDE of GNOME the environment variable is hardcoded so no matter if you export them on login you will get DE defaults. This thread has more info: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=214147 For LXDE you pretty much will have to change the code yourself (Filled a bug report in July about the behavior and still waiting for a reply, understandable since the focus is on LXQT) and as for GNOME someone in the thread said that the fix was implemented already for 3.21, so it is just a matter of either waiting or fixing it yourself. Can't help that much changed my environment to KDE some time ago, so I don't have that problem anymore (tired of GNOME 3 theming issues).

qt5ct is a solution. What is the solution? This is a fundamental problem between gtk and Qt that should be solvable without 3rd party software.

Because those segfaults can come from that variable not being assigned correctly. If it is not set properly it will try to use other platform that it is not qt5ct to implement GTK2 themes in QT apps when they do not have support for it (since the list seems global), thus failing miserably and getting segmentation faults, that's why I said that for those having problems to check if that was the case. If that is the case (and if you saw the thread it seems that it is the case with most cases where something rogue happens, knowingly or not)

Upstream has added a gtk2 platform theme that may solve this issue. Use latest AUR build and report back.
