It seems to be a network connection error. Can you connect normally to nhentai.net? You may need to pass proxy information by opening settings.json (found in %APPDATA%\NHxD\user) and edit the "network -> proxy" properties accordingly.
You could also enable logging by editing the "log" properties (i.e., set filters to "All") and check the logs to see if there are more details about the error that occurred. Logs are stored in %LOCALAPPDATA%/NHXD/logs.
