Looking at Mozilla's site, it looks like the Firefox service worker API uses the same syntax as Chrome and Safari. Seeing Firefox 46+ support the Notifications API as well, it should demonstrate the same behavior as Chrome and Safari when trying to create notifications. What made you think otherwise?

The current behaviour is not to use the ServiceWorker on desktops and rather use the Notification API directly. The service worker is not being registered for the same reason.

Having said that, we are looking into using the ServiceWorker by default across all browsers that have a support.
