Just an additional heads-up:
Yesterday I added stb to 3ds project (custom, embeded system), in my case it was
#include <memory.h> and #include <assert.h>. In my case I just replaced it with custom memory managers and everything worked fine. Commenting out also did a trick, since both assertion and memory manager were previously used in my code. I really don't think that such minor inconveniences are avoidable, though.

memory.h is easily fixable (i believe string.h is the standard). i finally upgraded my work build (which builds on every console but 3ds) from stb_image.c to stb_image.h and had to fix a few warnings like this, i'll check that in.

Added ability to override STBI_ASSERT to suppress usage of assert.h.
