Asking Twitter to enable your own app for xAuth may seem a cumbersome process, but it's the way it works.

Okay, so lets say I do get xAuth enabled. According to Twitter, this doesn't allow access to direct messages? Is this correct?

Would PIN-code out-of-band flow be an option?

Some app tokens can access direct messages and some cannot.

For example, I was able to access my direct messages with STTwitter using "Twitter for Mac" OAuth tokens.

I applied for xAuth. Is there anyway I could use the Twitter framework built in to the iOS?

No, you're right, a class to interact with the iOS Twitter framework is still to be added, such as STTwitterOSX. I'll do it.. soon! Meanwhile, check https://dev.twitter.com/docs/ios and https://dev.twitter.com/docs/ios/making-api-requests-slrequest

Ok I changed STTwitterOSX into STTwitterOS. This class should work for both OS X and iOS (tested on iOS 6 and 7).
