I have this issue as well. So we build a wrapper around useFetch and if mounted, then fetch used? Why would this functionality not be built into useFetch?

I get the same warning, and my site works fine in production (it's fully statically generated at the moment), and I currently don't have a real work around without using useAsyncData once mounted. I assume in my case it's calling useNuxtData once things are mounted, but I'm not entirely sure. I'm happy with whatever behavior is occurring from a performance perspective, but I wish there were a kosher way of doing it.
