Can confirm, multiple people reported this issue on slack.

I am currently using our 2.1.0 release and I don't have this issue. I have Windows 10 desktop.

Could it be specific to Mac?

Not Mac specific, I run linux. For me it appears to be caused by K@mail on my phone. Everything from my phone goes into one trash, everything from Nylas goes into another.

In K@mail it appears that Nylas is making an INBOX.Trash folder. I would have to look at the spec to see which client is at fault here, I'm leaning towards Nylas though.

It appears that this can happen because of IMAP... I did a quick scan through the code and it seems like Nylas did account for this in some manner due to the fact that they are shown as separate directories both with the trash icon.
See google for some interesting questions. It appears that thunderbird lets you override the default trash folder to whatever you want. Not sure what the correct course of action for us would be, they are both technically and literally separate directories.
